Tooth implants without bone grafting
The need to undergo bone grafting as an additional preliminary operation preceding dental implantation is something that makes patients frightened and wary. Doing it requires time and more money. Our doctors at Axioma Dental Clinic perform tooth implantation without bone grafting.
Implantation without bone grafting
Bone grafting is a collective term applied to a range of operations which can be performed on the lower and upper jaws in the anterior or posterior region. The purpose of these manipulations is to restore sufficient bone tissue to implant an artificial root.
In dentistry, there are treatment methods which do not require such additional manipulations. However, it is up to the doctor to make a decision based on examination and evaluation of bone tissue.
During implantation without bone grafting, an artificial root is implanted into the deep regions of the bone, where there is enough tissue and the implant can be stabilized at once.
There are numerous implantation protocols and some of them allow bypassing bone grafting. In this case, special implants are used, which can be placed without bone tissue restoration.
With patients who have a narrow bone structure, the alveolar ridge splitting technique can be used. Given the bone plasticity, the alveolar ridge is expanded, thus creating space where the implant can be placed and filled with bone material.
Prosthetics can be performed 3-4 months afterwards, whereas the traditional technique takes 2 to 3 times longer.
This manipulation makes it possible to avoid additional procedures, save time and make it unnecessary to perform aesthetic operations on gum soft tissues.
One of the most common and applicable protocols is All-on-4. This operation can restore teeth even if all of them are missing or in case of severe atrophy. Just 4 implants are inserted into the deep layers of the bone tissue at an angle: 2 in the anterior area and 2 in the region of posterior teeth.
Since only 4 implants are inserted, the doctor has the ability to choose an implantation point far from blood vessels and nerves, thus reducing the risk of injury and potential consequences.
How the operation is performed
Prior to the operation, the patient undergoes thorough examination, which is aimed at evaluating the clinical picture and eliminating any contraindications. For this purpose:
- Blood tests, X-ray and CT are prescribed.
- An operative plan is developed and areas for implanting artificial roots are determined.
- Mouth cavity debridement and professional hygiene are performed. These procedures reduce the risk of side-effects.
The operation is performed on the appointed day as follows:
- Dissecting soft tissues and gaining access to the alveolar ridge.
- Elevating the mucosal flap.
- Forming a seat for inserting the implant and bone material.
- The operating region is covered with an isolating membrane, which keeps the bone material safely in place.
- The mucosa is sutured.
After the operation, the doctor explains the rules of post-operative care. Observing the rules will help reduce the risk of complications:
- Following hygiene rules.
- No stress on the site of the surgery.
- Abstaining from bad habits.
- Limiting intensive physical exercise.
- No sauna or hot bath during the first 2-3 weeks.
The price depends on the selected system, clinical picture and number of implants. The doctors at Axioma Dental Clinic apply high-tech implant systems:
These implants are made of titanium-zirconium alloy noted for its high biocompatibility. They quickly integrate and have high strength. They have pores for the bone tissue to grow into, which ensures their stability.
They are made of titanium and subjected to special soak treatment, which ensures bonding of the implant with the bone tissue. A double threaded design provides high stability.
Axioma Dental Clinic offers a full range of implantation procedures. Our doctors are able to deal with the most complicated clinical situations.
